PART 2 — THE MAN I THOUGHT WAS DEAD – News

The same pendant I had given him on the night he disappeared.

I had made it myself.

Cheap silver.

One tiny scratch across the back.

And on the inside, I had engraved four words.

Come back to me, Alex.

My hands began trembling.

Alexander noticed.

“Who are you?”

I couldn’t answer.

He pushed the wheelchair forward.

“Look at me.”

I did.

And for one terrifying second, I saw the nineteen-year-old boy I had loved behind the face of the forty-year-old billionaire sitting in front of me.

The same gray eyes.

The same slight scar above his eyebrow.

The same habit of clenching his jaw whenever he was confused.

I whispered the name I hadn’t spoken in twenty years.

“Alex?”

His face changed.

Completely.

The cold billionaire disappeared.

His lips parted.

Nobody spoke.

Then he whispered:

“Who told you that name?”

I started crying.

And that was all the confirmation I needed.

Twenty years earlier, I had been nineteen.

Alexander had been twenty.

We were young, broke, reckless, and completely convinced that love could solve anything.

His father owned a small construction company.

My mother cleaned houses for wealth

We had no money.

But we had plans.

We were supposed to leave Chicago together.

We had everything arranged.

A cheap apartment.

Two bus tickets.

A future we thought belonged to us.

Then, the night before we were supposed to leave, Alexander called me.

His voice was strange.

He told me not to come outside.

He told me someone was watching him.

And then he said something I’ll never forget.

“If anything happens to me, don’t trust my father.”

That was the last conversation we ever had.

The next morning, Alexander was gone.

His car was found near the river.

His phone was recovered.

His wallet was inside.

But Alexander was nowhere.

His told everyone he had drowned.

No body.

No funeral.
