“What is it?”
He lowered his voice.
“I checked the old visitor logs from the estate after she mentioned it.”
My pulse quickened.
“And?”
“They were altered.”
Mave stared at him in disbelief.
“They erased my name,” she whispered.
Wesley nodded grimly.
“There are dozens of entries missing. Whoever did it had executive clearance.”
A cold weight settled in my chest.
Only three people had that authority.
My father.
My mother.
Or…
Coraline’s father.
Coraline took a slow step backward.
“This conversation is over.”
She reached for my arm, but I pulled away.
Something flickered across her face—not heartbreak.
Fear.
Real fear.
Then Posie slipped from Mave’s arms and toddled toward me before anyone could stop her.
She looked up with those unmistakable gray eyes and held out a tiny silver pendant hanging around her neck.
“I’ve been waiting for you,” she said with innocent certainty.
I looked down.
Inside the open pendant was a faded photograph.
Not of Mave.
Not of Posie.
It was a picture of me… taken two weeks after Mave disappeared.
A picture that had never been released to the public.
Only someone inside my own family could have given it to her.
