I reached the far wall.
No exit.
The guard smiled.
“Lena, let’s not make this difficult.”
He knew my name.
Then a fire extinguisher struck the side of his head.
He dropped.
Ana stood behind him.
“Three minutes,” she said.
“What?”
“You said five.”
She took the guard’s key card and gun.
“Now you understand.”
“No, I don’t.”
She opened a service elevator.
“Your husband does.”
The elevator carried us to the basement.
When the doors opened, Mark was waiting.
He had blood on his lip and plastic ties around his wrists.
Ana pointed the gun at him.
I stared at her.
“What are you doing?”
“Ask him why he booked this hotel.”
