A mechanized female voice chimed softly from the wall: “Security protocol initiated. Perimeter alarm activating in ten seconds.”
My blood turned to ice. Ten seconds before a siren would shatter the quiet of the estate, bringing the armed guards rushing up the stairs. My hand was shaking violently, coated in a sudden, cold sweat.
