Barry lowered himself into a chair.
“After the diner, I drove to Evelyn’s house and refused to leave,” Barry said.
“He arrived exhausted,” Evelyn added. “Then he told me about Emma. I got him all cleaned up and we talked the entire time.”
“You can’t replace ten years.”
“And the cars?” I asked.
“They belong to relatives who believed Margaret,” Evelyn said. “I wanted them to hear the truth. But I came to apologize and meet my granddaughter.”
