“It was only paperwork.”

“It was bank fraud.”
“You weren’t going to lose anything.”
“You pledged my personal assets.”
“You never would have noticed.”
“I noticed yesterday morning.”
Mother stepped forward.
“We’re family.”
“You should have come to us.”
“I did.”
“I’ve spent twelve years coming to you.”
“This time I went somewhere else.”
Grant’s breathing changed.
“You already reported this?”
“Yes.”
“When?”
I met his eyes.

His face drained of color.
Mother looked between us.
