No date was provided for McConnell’s release or return to the Capitol. At the time of the announcement, he had missed the Senate’s previous 38 floor votes.
That absence was particularly notable because the chamber was expected to remain in session for another two weeks before beginning its summer recess. McConnell said he hoped to return to both his Senate duties and Kentucky soon, but his doctors remained in control of that timeline.
A Beloved Kentucky Event Will Go On Without Him
McConnell’s continuing treatment also meant giving up an event he plainly did not want to miss. His condition prevented him from attending the annual Fancy Farm picnic in Kentucky that Saturday. “Unfortunately, that means I won’t be able to make it to Fancy Farm, Kentucky this Saturday,” he said.
McConnell added that there was “no place I’d rather be” and admitted, “I hate that I’ll miss the fun this year.”
