Just 72 hours after bringing my newborn home, my husband locked me out of my estate. He hired guards to block my way while he plotted to steal my hidden family assets. “I’ve won, Clara,” he texted and sent his mother to Miami on my dime to celebrate his “perfect takeover.” He thought he was untouchable. He had no idea that while he was raising a glass to his victory, I was making one single phone call. In exactly 5 minutes, he was about to lose the only thing he thought he permanently owned.

“You’re lying,” he spat, taking a step toward me before two officers slammed him brutally against the concrete wall, snapping cold steel handcuffs around his wrists. “You can’t do this! You can’t just sell the house in an hour! That’s illegal!”

“I assure you, Mr. Vance, it is entirely legal,” Jennifer said, stepping out from behind me, holding a waterproof folder containing the freshly stamped Vanguard deed. “And remarkably efficient.”

Brent thrashed against the officers, his true, ugly nature finally clawing its way to the surface. His face mottled with a sudden, vicious crimson. “That safe belongs to my family, Tessa!” he screamed, the spittle flying from his lips. “Your bitch of a mother stole everything from us! She ruined my father! She ruined my uncle! There are millions in bearer bonds in that safe, and it’s mine! It’s all mine!”

I stared at the man I had slept next to for four years. The father of my child. He looked like a stranger, a monster wearing a human skin suit. He had never loved me. He had only loved the ghost of the fortune he thought he was owed.
