I never asked them to call me Mom.

Little by little, they stopped watching me like a visitor.

One rainy Saturday, Mike ran into the kitchen wearing one shoe.

I cried all the way home.

That evening, Michael ordered pizza instead of letting me cook.

“You’ve done enough today,” he said.
