Long before Dolly Parton became one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world, she was one of twelve growing up in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Her childhood was filled with traditions, and the everyday experiences of a large household. Dolly was born to Robert Lee and Avie Lee Parton, who raised six sons and six daughters. The family lived with modest means, but music was an important part of everyday life.
