Wimbledon allows Kate to combine several parts of her public life. She is the Patron of the All England Club, a position she took over after Queen Elizabeth II stepped down from the role in 2016 following her 90th birthday.
Kate has served as patron since the 2017 tournament. Beyond presenting trophies and attending matches, she also visits charities and sports programs supported by Wimbledon throughout the year.
The royal family’s involvement with the championship stretches back much further. The Prince of Wales and Princess Mary, who later became King George V and Queen Mary, attended the tournament in 1907.
