“She said she found a clinic invoice.”
For the first time, Vanessa looked truly shocked.
“You went through my things?”
“No,” Daniel answered.
“I did.”
That sentence changed everything.
Vanessa stared at him.
“You don’t trust me?”
Daniel laughed softly.
But there was no happiness in it.
“I trusted you enough to believe your stories for six months.”
He took his phone from his pocket.
“I trusted you when you said my mother was becoming difficult.”
Another step.
“I trusted you when you said the missing jewelry was probably misplaced.”

“I trusted you when you told me she refused to support our marriage.”
His eyes moved toward the camera above the window.
“But then I came home early.”
Vanessa followed his gaze.
Her face turned pale.

A small sound came from inside the house.
The security system.
