The Widow Who Opened Her Door Before The Blizzard Took Them All

After I buried my husband, I kept one pot of soup for nights I couldn’t afford another. During the blizzard my neighbor yelled, “Let that Marine freeze, or you’ll be next.” I said nothing and opened the door — then his dog dragged us toward a sound under the snow.


The power had gone out on Cedar Hollow Lane, and the only light in my kitchen came from one candle trembling beside the stove.
