Part 2

The room went completely silent.

My son — Ethan — stood tall and strong in the doorway, no longer the soft boy who loved makeup and skirts. Six years in the military had changed his body, but his eyes were the same.

He pointed straight at my husband, Mark.

“Tell her what you did the night I turned 18.”

Mark’s face turned ash-gray. He sank onto the couch, hands shaking. “Ethan… please, not like this…”

“Now,” Ethan said coldly. “Or I walk out and you never see me again.”

Mark broke.

“I… I paid two men to take you away that night,” he whispered. “I told them to scare you. To make sure you never came back. I couldn’t stand it anymore — the clothes, the makeup, the way you were. I thought if you disappeared, our family could be normal.”

I felt like the floor disappeared beneath me.

Six years of sleepless nights. Six years of wondering if my son was dead, homeless, or suffering somewhere — all because my husband had him kidnapped and thrown away like garbage.

Ethan’s voice was steady but full of pain. “They beat me. They drove me across state lines and left me with $50 and a warning: if I ever contacted Mom, they would hurt her. I joined the military to survive.”
